Bremain redux a lesson for our political class

Brittania has voted to divorce Europa, and whatever you think of the result, there are lessons for our political class.

One is the strength of the coalition between the liberal middle class and the conservative working class. If you put the Tory party back together again, yet retain the themes […] Continue Reading…

Manchurian candidate or just a cuckoo?

I said to my good friend David Davies that I thought Australia had been invaded by the whites. He looked at me and said he was sure it was settlement. This would have been around about 1978 or 1979. He was studying law, I was studying English literature.

I had […] Continue Reading…

There is a correlation between CO2 and world security

Prince Charles and Bernie Sanders are on to something. There does appear to be a correlation between carbon dioxide emissions and world security. It’s just that they are holding one graph the wrong way around.

This is a graph of CO2 emissions over the last 100 or so years.

And this […] Continue Reading…

Issue not whether Shorten’s actions were illegal, but whether they should have been

Bill Shorten is crying foul because the Trade Union Royal Commission advised us late on Friday he had not broken the law.

This begs the question. There should be a law forbidding what he did.

He took money from employers that he was negotiating wage agreements with. This is an unacceptable […] Continue Reading…

First poll says Turnbull can get the blue collar voter

Gary Morgan is the first pollster out with a result, using his SMS methodology. His release is produced below.

Despite my suspicion that Turnbull will have trouble with the blue-collar conservatives, this poll shows him doing very well with Ind/Other supporters – 68% Turnbull to 29% Shorten.

The Liberal vote has […] Continue Reading…

Turnbull will have to redefine Liberal constituency

If Malcolm Turnbull wins the ballot against Tony Abbott, and whoever else might put their hand up, he will need to redefine the Liberal constituency in order to win an election.

Every time I have tested Turnbull as leader against Abbott in one of our polls he has been preferred […] Continue Reading…

ChAFTA about levelling the playing field

I don’t understand the debate about ChAFTA.

What ChAFTA does is allow Australia more access to China, after we unlitaterally extended that courtesy to China years ago.

It is about levelling the playing field for everyone which will create more jobs all around.

Yet the ALP, true to form under this regime, […] Continue Reading…

Unions must challenge Dyson in Federal Court

Unless the unions challenge Dyson Heydon’s ruling that he does not suffer from apprehended bias they are piling criminality on criminality.

In a statement yesterday ACTU Secretary Dave Oliver said the Trade Union Royal Commission is “terminally tarnished”.

It is a crime to try to bring a Royal Commission into disrepute. […] Continue Reading…

This woman should never be left alone with a public policy

Nichola Hungerford is the Campaign Coordinator for the Queensland Conservation Council, and on the available evidence she is a fringe lunatic.

This morning on 612 ABC Steve Austin asked her a question he’s been asking all environmental campaigners:
Austin: Is there any mine that the QCCC suports in the state?

Hungerford: No…how […] Continue Reading…

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the (Labor) party

It is quite clear from the Trade Union Royal Commission that not only are a number of unions riddled with criminality, but those same unions believe they own the Australian Labor Party.

All large organisations will from time to time harbour criminals. That is a given of human affairs. What […] Continue Reading…
