If only the political parties would grow out of this accursed &quot;small government&quot; and &quot;balancing the budget&quot; ideological nonsense imported from America. It&#039;s a fetish that denies all the potential of government as a medium for progress in an educated 21st century society and crawls back to the medieval misanthropy of the Hobbesian Middle Ages.
Let&#039;s just call it the &quot;Family First&quot; election, because that&#039;s about the amount of intellectual effort and rigour that voters apply to policy in federal and states elections, these days, anyway.
